Background: Dr. Dante Implicito is a Board Certified Orthopedic Spine Surgeon, credentialed by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey.

Education: Dr. Implicito completed his general surgery internship and Orthopedic Surgery residency in the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and its affiliated hospitals throughout Northern New Jersey. Upon completion of his Orthopedic Surgery residency he completed his spinal fellowship training at the San Francisco Combined Orthopedic Spine Surgical Fellowship at St. Mary’s Spine Center in San Francisco under the direction of Dr. James Zucherman and Dr. Ken Hsu.

Special Interests: Dr. Implicito’s area of special interest includes degenerative conditions of the cervical and lumbar spine and particularly spondylolisthesis. Dr. Implicito is the Orthopedic Director of the Spine Center at Hackensack University Medical Center and has presented many formal lectures to Orthopedic and Neuosurgical residents, the community and their surgical department and at several national and international meetings.

Accomplishments: Among Dr. Implicito’s most notable accomplishments was the performance of the first laparoscopic spinal fusion at Hackensack University Medical Center in 1997. Dr. Implicito has been invited to participate in several FDA investigational studies concerning spinal implants and was a developer of The X-Stop device for the treatment of spinal stenosis.  Dr. Implicito has also received a long list of awards, including:

Expertise: Dr. Implicito’s practice consists of the full gamut of conservative and surgical treatments of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine problems including diagnostic and therapeutic spinal injections, minimally invasive spinal surgery, disc arthroplasty and spine fusion surgery.

Publications: Dr. Implicito has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals including Spine and in the proceedings from the North American Spine Society and International Society for the Study of Lumbosacral Spine. These include the evaluation and treatment of failed lumbar spinal fusion cages, the surgical treatment of lumbar spondylitic spondylolisthesis, and the use of interspinous process distraction in the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. Dr. Implicito has also authored several book chapters including one on laparoscopic lumbar spinal fusion surgery and complications.

Memberships: Dr. Implicito is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery; he is also a member of the New Jersey Orthopedic Society, New Jersey Medical Society, the Bergen County Medical Society, the North American Spine Society, the International Spinal Injection Society, and the Garden State Orthopedic Network.

Affiliations: Dr. Implicito is the Section Chief of Spine Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey, as well as a member of the medical staff at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Philosophy: Dr. Implicito strives to offer the full gamut of state of the art care of spinal pain and spinal injuries and feels that the most difficult of these problems are best addressed in a multidisciplinary setting.
